WHY PULMONOLOGISTS PROHIBIT SMOKING?

Since our childhood, we our consistently hearing that Smoking is a lethal activity which causes many pulmonary complications.

In many institutions or public awareness campaigns, we have also been demonstrated that as a consequence of regular smoking our lungs appear as a black sponge, which can fill the entire beaker with charcoal colored sticky viscous solution. One of the pulmonary disease, which is commonly diagnosed in smokers is "Bronchitis".

TRACHEA & BRONCHUS:

Trachea is a muscular pipe, which is also known as "Wind Pipe". It contains "C" shaped cartilages, that are responsible to prevent Trachea from getting collapsed, as well as to give flexibility to it. Many goblet cells here produces sticky mucus to trap dust particles & numerous amount of ciliated epithelial cells move that mucus along the airways.
Further division of trachea into smaller & narrower branches is called as Bronchus. Despite the fact that all the structures of Bronchus & Trachea are most likely to be the same, except for the shape of cartilages.

BRONCHITIS:

Whilst smoking, Tar is consumed, which is one of the most prominent constituent of the cigarettes. This tar is trapped by the mucus due to higher mucus generation rate in Bronchus. As a result of which the contaminated mucus promotes the growth of Bacteria emerging into the lungs through air. Ultimately, this causes Inflammation of Bronchus, which is specifically defined as Bronchitis.
